Philips Norelco QT4070 Stubble Mustache
Compared to any other trimmer on the market, I venture to say this is the most superior. I have owned at least 4 different types, including another Norelco. By any comparison, this product exceeds my expectations and makes other trimmers look like garbage.
The trimmer is a pleasure to hold and seems ergonomically designed. The build quality is very solid- to the point of impressive. Adjusting the trimmer is accomplished via a rubber coated adjustment wheel that is accessible on both sides of the trimmer. There are length indicators on the side vertically (a scale in inches) and the adjustment size displays on the LCD screen in millimeters. This provides a precise cut to those who require such precision (not me). The width of the blade area is more than sufficient for face and other areas (more on that later). Touted as a Vacuum trimmer, it does a pretty good job overall with some room for improvement as it may not vacuum all hair although that may depend on the length of hair being cut. Hair collects in a little compartment with a swing door. The trimmer is rechargeable (a stand is not included however- just the charger). Despite being rechargeable, the trimmer is very powerful, easily cutting through thick beard.
Some Issues
As stated before, the vacuum does a decent job, but not a great job at collecting hair. The shorter the hair, the better the job. At the very least, it seems to significantly contain the mess. Another issue is that due to the design of the blade guard, you cannot really trim right up under the nose. It gets pretty close, but not quite. Finally, neither a beard brush, travel case, or recharger stand are included. I was a little surprised in this regard.
I am unable to comment at this time on how long the battery will last. I will have to edit my review after a few months to see how the charge stands up.

I purchased this item on the basis of reviews which said the device is fine, the problem is that they omitted the contour comb, but you can obtain the missing part by calling the company. I planned to call the day I received the item to have them send me the missing part.
BalasHapusMuch to my surprise, when I opened the package I discovered that both attachments were included, just as the box and the enclosed paper manual says. I have no experience with the item as yet, but I want to confirm that the company appears to have rectified their error and has begun packaging the contour comb with the trimmer.

I've tried a few trimmers in my time, and this is by far the best one.
BalasHapusFirst off the one and two star reviews that mention the lack of the contour comb attachment are now invalid - it now includes it AND the new stubble attachment.
1. Comes with both contour comb and stubble attachment. Use whichever one works better for you.
2. Works great for both hair and beard (I use the 4 mm setting for my head, can't say how good it is for long hair).
3. Vacuum system works very well and a real sink-cleaning time saver.
4. Small power adapter that works with 100-240 VAC, so can be used abroad.
5. No risk of trim height changing accidentally due to rotating ring selector.
6. Light weight, small size compared to a lot of wired trimmers.
7. Corded + cordless use.
8. Guide comb comes off for detail work.
9. 1 hour charge time.
10. 2 1/2 year warranty if registering with Philips online.
I could go on. Get it.
I believe Norelco has solved the trimmer issue mentioned in the negative reviews. I just purchased the QT4070 and it has both combs included with the trimmer, Trimming Comb and the Contour-following Trimming Comb. It matches the part numbers in the cautionary reviews. The Stubble Trimmer has been discontinued as a replacement part. Hope this helps others looking at the product.
BalasHapusAfter losing my T980 on a trip last week, this was the obvious replacement. However, all the earlier reviews gave me pause regarding the guide design.
BalasHapusTHIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY NORELCO - Upon opening the box, you will find not only the shaver, charger, literature, etc. but also the alternate floating guide that so many have lamented is missing. Obviously, that was something I was happy to see but I can also report something else... The stock non-floating guide that comes with this unit does indeed appear like you should be more careful but it actually seems to allow a much better control of actual "stubble" length than was possible for me before with the floating guide on the T980... that's right, it does a better job of what it was designed for - STUBBLE. I'm quite pleased that the floating guide is NOW INCLUDED but I'm anticipating not using it as often as I thought I would.
These guys could probably bitch about having a wet dream! The trimmer works fine. I just took 1/2" of beard down to stubble and somehow managed to do it without crying. I tried a variety of heights and got an even cut all the way down, no pinching or stabbing occurred, even when I completely removed the comb guide. I'm completely happy with my purchase.
