Tying cables and cords

While this works in the garden, I generally prefer the thicker 'heavy duty' type for tying heavy laden tomato branches, outdoor type extension cords, etc. There are other uses that make this a favorite though. It does come in handy for tying up tall flower stems to stakes and such lighter uses and also works well to keep my birdfeeder doors closed. I have two suet feeders that can be plundered by squirrels when closed the way they are designed to be closed. For some reason, using some of this twist tie to secure the doors works perfectly. After I've reused a piece multiple times, the wire will break so then I cut a new piece. A pack lasts a long time, though, and is a good value for such outside uses.

But my favorite use for this stuff is inside, where I keep another pack. I use it to contain appliance cords. With wire snippers I cut whatever length I want and tie up the offending volume of cord. The cords can be liberated and retied as needed many times before the wire gives out. It is a really inexpensive solution to this problem. There's an even thinner version that I use for the little cables for my phone, camera and iPod and other USB type cables.

While there are products specifically designed for various cable uses, they are more expensive and tend to get lost, while this generous pack lasts and is always easy to find. This is great stuff for many things and I find having it on hand in the utility room, the garage and the potting shed is very useful. Highly recommended for multiple uses.

  1. This is an excellent product not only for the garden, but also for around the house. I use it to support my plants/trees. I also use it to wind around thin electric cords in the house (for small appliances like an electric toothbrush, my Iphone cord, etc). It keeps them neat. If you don't mind the green color, it does a fantastic job. It's extremely durable so it can be used for multiple times (if you change it from one thing to another). It's a lot less expensive than buying the individual ties specifically for winding around cords in the house. This can easily be cut with scissors to make it the exact length you need. Great product!

This is the light duty tie which is thinner than the heavy duty tie. Both sizes are very useful depending on what you need them for.

  2. I bought this instead of aerogardens expensive version. I am glad i did. It makes good and easy trellises for my aerogardens.

  3. Gentle on my orchids and a great price for the product. It can be a little difficult to cut, but hey, it looks nice.

  4. I got this product to prop up my butterfly bush that was leaning. I bought it at my local hardware store for less than $5. I then did a quick check online to see if the price was competitve since I usually find things less expensive online. Not in this case. It's a great product and is easy to use. I highly recommend it.

  5. This is a pretty good product. I had been using cheap wire ties and ran out. I picked this up instead, and am surprised at how much better it is. Being thicker, it's easier to grasp and work with in tight spaces around prickly plants. It's grippy, so it holds itself pretty well. Very easy to cut with small wire cutters, and I like being able to choose my own length.

The green is nowhere near a real plant color, but it's less noticeable from a distance. Would buy again.

  6. These tie wires are flexible steel wire coated with a thick rubber covering. They are very handy around my shop and home for tieing and bundling a variety of things, and once you use them you'll wonder how you got along without them. I haven't found any other product quite like them.

  8. This stuff is great for traiing your plants and even young trees. It's quite strong and user-friendly. The coating seems to be plant friendly as well. Simply cut it with wire cutters to your desired length and use where ever some guidance is needed for your plants.
