Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Bagless

Dyson DC33 Multi Floor Upright Bagless

In our old home I had a Dyson DC21 canister vac that I loved - it was very powerful and easy to each in all the nooks and crannies, it was a small house with hardwood floors and awkward spaces to vacuum. However when we moved to out new condo, which has about 650 square feet of medium pile carpet in the huge bedroom and 3 levels (2 flights of stairs) and I found the canister much less convenient for this arrangement. SO I decided to sell the DC21 and buy a cheaper upright vac. I got the Hoover T series bagged ("HEPA" bag - I put that in quotes because it's not a true HEPA system) Windtunnel but I was very unhappy with it - poor suction which I was not able to fix, the door of the bag compartment wouldn't close tightly which may have contributed to poor suction, and the plastic parts were very cheaply made. I very much missed my Dyson and was unhappy that I'd sold it for the inferior Hoover. I returned the Hoover and went shopping for a Dyson upright, resigned to spending more money than I'd been able to sell my used Dyson for.

I tried out the Ball models and I liked the agility and flat front that would fit under cabinets, but the DC24 in my price range had a very small dirt bin, and less suction than the DC33 and a more fiddly wand assembly. The DC25 is great but a lot more expensive. I decided to go with the DC33 and I like it - light enough to carry up stairs, but very powerful cleaning. I plan to buy a mini turbine head to clean under furniture with the wand attachment. The dirt bin is easy to empty into a bag without puffing dirt all over, important for allergy suffers. And the air exhaust is clean smelling and doesn't trigger my allergies as I vacuum. And like all Dysons, it has major cleaning power!

  1. This vacuum is AMAZING! My husband and I had a Eureka Maxima, and it clogged all the time, lost suction (from the clogging), and the hose kept falling out. You can only blow a vacuum out so many times with an air compressor before you get sick of it. So, one night, we went shopping for a vacuum. We've wanted a Dyson for so long, and we pushed different models around the store for hours. We finally decided on this one.

    Pros:
-Big canister makes it easy to vacuum for awhile without having to dump (this canister is also bigger than the Ball models).
    -15 foot cord!!
-Quiet. Yes, this vacuum is quiet.
    -Unmatched suction
-Picks up cat hair, dust, dander, dirt, and everything else without a hitch. You only have to go over a spot one time!
-Very, very long hose and attachments
    -Easy to empty canister

    Cons:
-Once you buy this vacuum, you will find it hard to stop using it!

Yes, this vacuum is pricey. But it is definitely worth the price. We have 4 long-haired, shedding, exploding cats. They have sterlite tubs as litter boxes and get litter everywhere. It gets into the carpet (we live in an apartment), behind baseboards, just everywhere. Our old vacuum picked up the surface litter but we just couldn't get the embedded litter out no matter how hard we tried. Our house smelled like cat, even after scooping twice a day. We had no idea that a vacuum could take care of such a problem. We come home now and don't smell cat, or cat litter. The carpet looks newer. The couch looks great!

This vacuum is worth it, I doubt you will be disappointed!

  2. I wanted to replace my Bissell Vacuum cleaner for more suction and power. I decided to go for Dyson for their no loss of suction technology. I zeroed in on DC25 and DC33. I had a tough time researching them online to decide which one to buy. So I had to try them both before deciding. Here are the more subtle differences of DC33 over DC25 that really matters.

1.) DC33 has a bigger canister compared to DC 25. You can continue vacuuming DC33 for longer before emptying the bin.
2.) DC33 has a longer power cord. Actually I found it to be too long and a slight inconvenience strangely.
3.) DC33 has more suction power than DC25 although only slight.
4.) DC33 dust bar is fixed unlike DC25 which can be removed for cleaning. But the real advantage for DC25 is that the dust bar protrudes a good 6 - 8 inches away from the body of the Vacuum cleaner. This makes cleaning under the furniture with low ground clearance easier.
5.) Maneuverability in DC33 is a slight inconvenience over DC25 because of the lack of BALL. Not many will consider this as a real disadvantage though.
6.) The brush beater ON/OFF switch is located at the bottom in DC33 compared to DC25 where it is located near the power switch.
7.) DC33 is inexpensive compared to DC25 at least on Dyson website. With Amazon deals I was able to grab a DC33 for $299 where as the DC25 was listed at $319. The prices keep changing but this was the best I could get.

I eventually decided to go with DC33 because of the following factors. More suction, Bigger bin and cheaper than DC25.

  4. Really like this vacuum! It is a bit awkward when using the cleaning tools. It's hard to pull the vacuum around b/c the hose is stored in the handle. I drag it by the the handle on the bagless cylinder, but it's awkward. The side suction (up against your baseboards) is phenomenal! The ease of emptying the bagless cylinder is wonderful. We're not an allergy family, but spent the extra $ for the HEPA version of the DC33. The filters are washable, no replacing!

  5. Outstanding machine. I'm an engineer, so I'm really picky with mechanical devices that they a) function as promised and b) have durable construction so I don't have to constantly maintain them. This lives up to it. It's a simple, durable construction and really has the power to clean floors. Well worth the money.
